Loose Cut Diamonds For Customized Jewelry

By Michelle Howe

Designing one's own jewelry has become quite the popular consumer choice. The choose to pick from loose cut diamonds insures a piece of jewelry unlike any other person has. Some of the most beautiful piece can be created at about the same cost of those a professional has designed.

These precut gems have never been placed into a prior setting. A jeweler will present a wide selection of different stones to be chosen from. There will be many different shapes and sizes to pick for your personalized item. Other gem types can also be chosen in addition to these. When finished, the jewelry piece will have been completely designed by the customer.

Round cut diamonds are among the most common loose gemstones. They have a very basic visual appeal, but are the embodiment of elegance and class. They reflect a great amount of light due to their specific shape. They make the perfect stones for items such as earrings, rings or bracelets. A single diamond or accented with other gems are both acceptable. The round cut stone should always remain the primary focal point when used, however.

Emerald cut diamonds have a rectangular shape and are seen most often in men's pieces. Cuff links are usually the most popular items for this cut. They can be used in women's jewelry as well, but the design around them can be a little more difficult. This cut is ideal for using rubies or other colored stones in the piece. Alone the feminine appearance is detracted from due to their shape.

Radiant cut diamonds are square in shape and also another common gem for men's items. Just like the emerald cut stone, incorporation into women's pieces is more difficult than men's. Again, additional stones should always be used to insure a feminine look is achieved. The absence of different colors, shapes and sizes will make the item look more masculine.

The oval cut has an obvious shape, based on it's name. These stones are just as beautiful to use as the the radiant cut. They make a great option for rings. They usually aren't as light reflective as the radiant cut, but a high clarity grade can make up for that and they can be just as bright.

The teardrop cut is most beautiful when used in earrings. They are also well suited for necklace pendants. Their unique cut works best in jewelry items that will allow them to be suspended in some way. The suspension allows them to move at the wearer moves, result in a higher ratio of light reflection from the stone.

The variety of loose cut diamonds to be chosen from is so vast that only the more common choices are listed here. It is very easy to understand why design one's own jewelry could be so popular, after realizing how many choices there are. With cost staying within about the same range as other jewelry, personalizing has never been easier. Even at a more expensive price, a lot of consumers still choose the option to design their own item over purchasing something designed by someone else.
