Planning An Art Gallery Visit

By Isaura Downey

If you are interested in visiting an art gallery, there are tips that you can use in order to make the most out of your visit. Museums and exhibition centers are characterized by long lines at the ticketing office. To beat the lines, buy your ticket online. Online tickets can be printed at home and this will allow you a quick passage in to the exhibition room.

Galleries remain open for various days during any week. If you would not like to come in to contact with crowds, you may try scheduling your visit for the less busy times. Groups and students tend to plan their visit for the morning hours. This leaves you with the afternoons and the evenings.

First time visitors should never be afraid to walk right in to any museum. Even if you are not very familiar with the pieces on display, walk in and look around. No one will bother you. Museums are accustomed to hosting different types of people including browsers, buyers and even artists.

After walking in, proceed directly to the center of the room. Stand at the center and observe each piece carefully. Once you have identified a piece that catches your attention, you can walk to it and examine it. This is better than starting at one end and then going through each piece.

Planning a visit on the opening nights can enable you understand the sculptures much better. Apart from being treated to beverages and snacks, you also get to interact with the artists present. This is a unique opportunity to have all your questions answered.

While at a gallery, do not be afraid to approach any personnel for help. They are there to help and will be more than happy to answer any questions about the drawings. Always make sure that you do not stand too close to any painting.

It is important that you ask before taking any photographs. Photography rules differ from center to center. Many exhibition museums do not allow photographs to be taken in order to avoid infringing copyright laws. If you cannot afford to buy the actual painting, a request can be placed to the exhibition center for a catalog.

It is important that you take some time to sign the guest book before exiting any art gallery. You are only required to state your name and also provide some basic information about yourself. It is not mandatory to provide a phone number or email address when writing in the guest book.
