Life Lessons Learned By The Kids MMA Annapolis, MD Professionals Instruct

Stories about children who commit suicide as a direct result of intense school bullying have become all too common. Many parents discuss the matter with teachers and school administrators, but it continues to be a serious problem. Some parents feel they have no choice but to home school their youngsters. Others decide to teach their kids fist fighting and wrestling moves. Still others enroll their children in kids MMA Annapolis, MD classes for instruction in the martial arts.

Mixed martial arts include judo, karate, and kickboxing in addition to wrestling and boxing. Children as young as three can be enrolled in some classes and learn basic moves. It should be up to the individual parents to decide when it is most appropriate to enroll their child in one of these classes. Instead of being a brawling match between opponents, one of the most basic tenets of the art is self-discipline. For children with difficulty grasping the concept, this can be a great way to underscore the importance of controlling one's behavior.

Socializing is a skill that is easier to master for some young children than for others. Those who are shy or withdrawn can benefit from being in the company of their peers where everyone is doing something they enjoy. Schoolyard playtime, if there is any, can be difficult when certain children congregate in groups or cliques. It is not longer unusual for even very young children to be seriously overweight. Many spend all their free time in front of televisions and computer screens. A lot of schools have removed gym and physical fitness from their curriculum. Martial arts classes are a way to get a sedentary youngster off the couch, working muscles, and burning calories.

Reaching goals and milestones fosters self-esteem. This is especially true of youngsters who are not particularly adept at traditional team sports. Earning new belts and mastering complicated moves gives children a sense of accomplishment and something to be proud of. Improving self-esteem in a child with issues will affect every aspect of her life.

It is not unusual these days to see a young child being disrespectful to a parent, teacher, or some other adult. Social skills sometimes seem to be a dying art. One of the core tenets of martial arts is respect for authority. The instructors require a certain attitude from their young pupils and are willing to deal authoritatively when youngsters fall short of expectations.

Parents may initially enroll their children in these classes to teach them how to defend themselves, but they will quickly learn that martial arts instructors emphasize the importance of non-violence. Starting fights because they know karate moves is unacceptable behavior in pupils. Peaceful resolution is the goal and the best line of defense.

No parent wants their child to be the victim of bullies or be accused of bullying others. Learning self-respect and respect for others, self-esteem, and self-discipline makes her better able to handle or deflect difficult situations. Being physically active and developing friendships are also positive byproducts of mastering these arts.
