Benefits Of An Outdoor Pool Shower

By Roger Olson

Pools are a great source of exercise and can be very entertaining for people of all ages. They are also prone to problems and can be costly to upkeep. Cleaning and adding chemicals to keep a healthy balance in the water can be tedious. There are ways to help minimize the amount of maintenance required, and one of those ways is to make use of an outdoor shower. This rinses away products used on the body and hair that can contribute to excess chemicals in the water and require the use of more pool chemicals.

Public pools, whether indoor or outdoor, require users to shower before entering the water. The reasons are the same for having people shower before using a private, backyard pool. Rinsing those personal products and body oils away before swimming helps to keep the pH balance in the water proper and requires less use of chemicals to do so. Even chemicals and soaps in laundry products can cause problems so having guests thoroughly rinse their skin and swimming gear is beneficial.

Outdoor showers come in many different forms. Even the most simple forms, like a special bag that can hold enough water for a few people to rinse before requiring refilling is sufficient. These hang from a tree or structure and the water is warmed by the sun. They are very inexpensive but will do the job. The only downfall is that unless they are refilled with warm water, they can be unpleasant to use until the water heats up.

Of course, there are elaborate and expensive options for a shower as well. A simple internet search can provide a number of businesses that specialize in building them. Some are so beautiful that the owners may prefer showering outside! Many of these are tied into household plumbing and offer the same water temperature options that are found in an indoor, traditional one.

For people wishing to build their own, ideas and plans are available online. From very basic to more elaborate, the design and style depend on the skills of the builder and the budget and space available. It can be very easy to find a design that fits well into the style of the yard and the landscape and it can be a fun and rewarding project.

Of course, unless the shower is used, it defeats the purpose of having one. Be sure to educate pool users as to why it is important and what happens to the water if it is not used. Make it a requirement for everyone to rinse prior to using the pool.

Keep in mind that the shower does not need to be used exclusively for prior to swimming use. Rinsing the pool chemicals from skin and swimwear after swimming is important too. It is especially beneficial if the water is treated with chlorine which is harsh and can cause skin irritation, hair discoloration and fading to swimwear.

Help family and guests to understand the importance of using the shower both before and swimming. Enforce the rule of use and it will become habit for everyone, making the water easier to maintain and helping to save money on treatment chemicals.
