Some Sell Wine Collection Mistakes People Make

By Bertha Wells

It has become an acceptable trend for people to sell their wine collection online, even when one has no experience to do so. One has to make certain of the fact that the very best is being sold out there, as that is what makes the difference between one sell wine collection and another. People do not get into the habit of thoroughly preparing for the sale of their collection, and this unpreparedness handicaps their results.

The first mistake most people make is to give away or make available portfolios that come with high values. This makes many people feel they need to go through days and months of processes just to obtain a liquor license. Other people feel that they just do not have the time to trade with online buyers because the process will take too long.

There is more to selling than a few fancy bottles packaged together in a fancy crate, which is why collectors must thoroughly do their homework. One of the homework that needs to be done is that collectors must research and find out the value of their own collection. Delegating that responsibility to auction houses is dangerous. It is dangerous because auctions tend to trade at a far lower rate than what it is really worth.

Using auctions to sell is never a good idea. There are so many buyers that cheat sellers out of the deal. Many of these buyers accept the prices given by owners at the start but after they have received product, they start to give long details of complaints and are dissatisfied with the quality of the wine.

It is highly recommended that the seller insists on receiving just half of the payment, then deliver half of his stock. Should the buyer like the quality of the wine and they give no complaints, the seller can then insist on the balance outstanding and he in turn must hand over the rest of the stock. A seller must ensure that they do not buy into the low-ball counter offer system. This means that the seller must divide his collection into small boxes, he can then sell each box separately. If there is a buyer who defaults in payment, the buyer is not left without stock to continue selling.

Believe it or not there is a manner in which one must deliver to the buyer. The seller must keep in mind that in whatever way delivery takes place, the most important thing is NOT to compromise the quality. If by the time the delivery is effected, labels have peeled off the bottle, the temperature of the drink is altered or worse the quality is compromised, that will be a huge strike against the collector.

Mastering packaging and shipping is the half way point to a successful wine business. This is especially imperative if one wants to trade their collection online. A seller will need to do his homework concerning selling online as not every online site permits that wines be sold via their website.

Having said that though, it does not mean that selling one's collection is impossible, quite the contrary. A collector can research for online buyers and with hard work and perseverance, he will find these buyers. With careful planning and hard work, one can sell wine collection successfully.
