Cooking & The Best Oils To Use

By Rob Sutter

When it comes to cooking, it's important to understand which oils are best. After all, they are all different and chances are that you might prefer one type of oil for cooking purposes as opposed to all others. With that said, what are some of the best oils to consider, you may wonder, and why is it that they are used to prepare meals? Here are just a couple of ideas to keep in mind and why they should - or perhaps shouldn't - be put to use.

The News-Press published a report that talked about certain oils for cooking and which ones may, or may not, be the best. Extra virgin olive oil was seen as a positive choice, given the fact that it has 78 percent monounsaturated fat content. Compare this to something like coconut oil, though, which has 5 percent monounsaturated fat content instead. What this means is that the former choice is the one which will be more preferred for health reasons, so it is important to keep this in mind.

It is fortunate that there is evidence centered on extra virgin olive oil in regards to its health benefits. For example, did you know that this type of oil contains antioxidants, which are components used by the body to, amongst other functions, maintain the immune system? This type of oil is easily one of the most natural but it seems like there is a level of concern linked to whether or not this type of oil can be heated. It can be done; it just takes a certain level of care for it to be conducted effectively.

What is it that can be said about saturated fats, though, you may wonder? The article detailed them, as the American Heart Association has said that the fats in question should make up for only 7 percent of the calories that are consumed on a daily basis. It is clear that these fats should not be taken in through high amounts, especially when considering their relation to LDL cholesterol. This is not the type that should be taken in, especially since it is connected to conditions along the lines of heart disease.

With this in mind, the importance of selecting the best oil for cooking purposes goes without saying. It is clear that you want to be able to help your meals to stand out and one of the ways that this can be done is through implementation of the best possible oils. As a general rule, it's prudent to note the presence of unsaturated fats as opposed to saturated ones. Even then, fat intake should be maintained, so be careful about how much you use when preparing meals.
