Learning New Techniques From A Quilting Blog

By Patty Goff

Everyone has a creative side to their personality. Some people enjoy building things that challenge their imaginations. Others enjoy being crafty and selling their goods at the local craft fairs. Following a Quilting Blog in order to learn new techniques and patterns is a great way to expand your knowledge without leaving their homes.

Talking to others that enjoy and share your interests provides the opportunity to build friendships. It also lays a wonderful foundation for learning new techniques as well as getting unique and creative ideas from other people. This offers an opportunity to learn what others are doing and it opens up the creative process that includes colors and textures.

Meeting and sharing ideas is not a new concept. This has been a tradition among many families as well as a variety of cultures for centuries. The intimate friendships that were made in this fashion were often strengthen and lasted a lifetime.

Now days, in the time of computers and Syping, people now have found their own way of communicating and sharing their creations. This is a wonderful new way of following someone that you may admire. Many have chosen this avenue in sharing everything from their views on politics to learning a new craft, to educating others about their world experiences.

There are obviously pros and cons on this subject. Obviously, the personal connection is lost and relationships are not fostered. But it can also be just what is needed in a world where our time is so limited. Following a blogger who shares a strong interest can provide a connection of sorts as well as new information on the craft you enjoy. It also provides a great way of learning a new skill. If need be, the blog can be reviewed in the future for anyone who feels they need a little reminder on a particular lesson.

There is a level of communication even with online interaction. Bloggers welcome curiosity from their fans. They invite questions and comments and enjoy interacting and discussing subjects with them. They enjoy the feedback that is offered and often use that as a learning tool for themselves, which in turn, improves their blog.

Taking notes and paying close attention to the information provided can increase your skill level as well as your current knowledge on the subject. Just like in a classroom, taking notes and writing down directions can provide a quick reference to a new skill. This also offers the opportunity to discuss what you have learned with family and friends and good notes provides a more accurate account on the subject.

In this day and age, there are so many ways to enjoy and learn new crafts that does not require leaving home or taking up a large amount of time. With the demands that we have with our careers and families as well as finding time for ourselves, we often are very limited on what we can do for the pure enjoyment of it. Following someone online and learning about their unique craft and how to implement it into the craft you are doing opens up an entirely new classroom for us all.
