By Olivia Cross

The sharp pains in your lower part of the leg, what could it be? Perhaps its an in jury perhaps its a swelling well perhaps its a navicular pain. Many a time we experience a pain in our legs not really knowing the exact cause of it, when we try to self diagnose we rarely see the cause. In this instance upon visiting a specialist we are diagnosed with it. Upon diagnosis we then ask ourselves what is this condition, what causes it, what are its symptoms, myths, cure and its preventions

These pains are at times caused by an incomplete crack in the lower limb which is connected to navicular bone. Here one of the muscles attached to the navicular bone contracts and expands creating a pulling force which in turn is exerted on the bone. The force exerted on the bone causes it to twitch and the nervous system transmits the information as painfulness which we in turn call the navicular pains.

Some individuals though a small percentage are endowed with an extra bone in their foot or at times its a cartilage. This also known as naviculum vitae, Its located in the lower foot just above the arch. Out of this group of people some suffer severe pains due to extra bone in their feet. The painfulness in their feet is caused by the aggravation of the extra bone due to various conditions.

On some occasions the painfulness is caused by the bodily strain due to the normal day to day activities like the usual stroll from one point to another in an irregular way such as through jumping or sprinting, this causes the tendons to strain and in turn cause the irritation and un ease, also cause of painfulness is due to physical cracking or even breaking of the bone or cartilage in the navicular system.

For those with the extra bone or cartilage in their feet one of the main cause of this irritation is due to discomfort of shoes the wear or aggravation of extra bone. Some myths that have been associated with the development of this irritation is the association of weak bones with the painfulness, while some people claim that weak bones could be among the sources of pain there is no direct link between the weak bones and the painful sensation in the foot.

The association between weak bones and it being the causative agent for this ailment is a disputed myth, this is because the weak bones have in no relation to the cause of painful sensation as long as they function normally.

One of the facts about this illness is the truth that an increase in weight has a direct impact on the level of pain experienced. This is because the weight increased will lead to a direct strain on the tendons affected and if the source of the pain was a slightly fractured bone the situation may even worsen which may in turn lead to the complete breaking of damaged bone.

On very rare occasions do thorns and pricks cause the ache this is because the body has a slow mechanism of blocking the painful sensation by surrounding it by dead cells which in turn does not transmit the painfulness, On very rare occasions to do thorns reach the navicular level to cause harm to it.
