Add A Touch Of Glamour With Fendi Eau De Parfum

By Nancy Brown

Wearing something by a famous designer is an instant way to make you feel glamorous. If your budget doesn't allow for that designer dress, though, there's no reason to fret. You can bring some luxury to your life with something small, for instance the fragrance of a Fendi eau de parfum.

The brand originated in Rome back in 1918, with Adele Casagrand's decision to start her own business selling leather and fur goods. Seven years later she married Edoardo Fendi and changed the name of her shop. Their daughters continued building the family business and in the mid-Sixties, they brought a young fashion genius named Karl Lagerfeld on board. Today the design house is known and loved throughout the world.

While they produce a ready-to-wear collection every season, the company's main focus is on stylish accessories. These include shoes, scarves, sunglasses, jewelry and watches. It's for their bags that the company is best known, however. The Baguette design became an instant fashion classic upon its release and has been seen on the arms of celebrities ever since.

In 1985, the company decided to branch into the fragrance market by launching their first perfume. This was simply called Fendi and was a floral eau de parfum with a bit of Oriental warmth. Among the notes you can identify when smelling this complex fragrance are bergamot, rosewood, rose, jasmine, lily of the valley, patchouli, cedarwood, musk and amber. In the years since, the designer brand launched several new scents, including fragrances for men.

The original Fendi fragrance was an eau de parfum. An EDP, as it's also called, is more affordable than a concentrated perfume. It is normally made up of about fifteen percent of the oils that create the scent, with water and alcohol making up the rest. You only need to use a small amount at a time, so it's a good buy because it will last you many months or even years.

Even cheaper than EDP is an EDT, or eau de toilette. Containing around 10 percent of the oils that make up the fragrance, this is also a lighter version of the fragrance. However, an EDT's scent fades more quickly than that of an EDP so you will go through a bottle more quickly.

For summer or for everyday wear, an EDT is perfect because it is light and refreshing. A stronger EDP is great for winter, in the evening or for those special occasions. It can quickly become overpowering if you don't apply it right, though. The best way to apply an EDP is to spray some of it in front of and slightly above you and then step through the fragrant cloud, letting the fine, scented mist settle on your body, hair and clothes.

Devotees of Fendi perfumes were devastated when in 2006 all the existing fragrances were discontinued. This was a decision by the company's new owner, LVMH, who instead focused on releasing new fragrance lines. Luckily you can still find bottles of the discontinued fragrances, including the original eau de parfum, at auctions online, at estate sales and even at charity shops.
