They do this by using a ritual broom that is also known as a besom which is the broom that most people would associate with witches on television. They would usually sweep the area with the broom to get rid of astral trash that would somehow disrupt the ongoing ritual.
When that is already done, then the next thing to do would be to make the circle. The circle is very important because it is the circle that will be able to harness the energy that one will use in order to cast the spell. Of course he may make a circle made out of pretty much any material.
Now upon the completion of the preparations, one is ready to do the ritual. Now the ritual would involve a lot of spells and incantations. Now these incantations would actually help the practitioners be able to bring their energy in one place to perform a spell.
When the spell has already been casted, then the very last thing to do would be to close the circle. In the closing, one will be thanking the gods and the goddesses for the power that was given. This way, the energy will be balanced once again and no stray energy will have a chance to get out of the circle.
