Learn About Diagnostic Ultrasound Solutions Available In Sugar Land TX

By Frank Carbart

There are several things to keep in mind regarding some ultrasound procedures that are not standard. These prenatal tests are used by doctors as a courtesy to women and their husbands who are excited about the anticipated birth of their baby. However, the Sugar Land 3D/4D diagnostic ultrasound may not be covered by everyone's insurance policy.

Not every physician or medical facility is equipped to administer the 4D type of ultrasound. It differs from the 2D and 3D sonogram. Using the four-dimensional technology, the mother and father may be able to detect a smile on the baby's face.

From the viewpoint of the obstetrician there is a practical aspect to the 4D ultrasound. Some birth defects will be shown. While a cleft palate, for one example, may not show on a standard 3D sonogram it can be seen on the 4D version.

According to research available at this time, all versions of the sonogram are considered to be safe. However, some medical groups warn than if it is done too frequently, it may not be beneficial for the fetus. Some malls are offering to do sonograms for parents to keep as mementos of the pregnancy. You should be aware that all technicians may not be adequately trained.

For the sonogram, the pregnant woman lies on her back on an examination table. The technician rubs a gel on her stomach to help carry the sound waves. Then a probe is moved slowly over the abdomen to capture the image. As the probe is moved slowly over the stomach, the image of the baby can be seen on a monitor as the test is being done.

There are valid medical reasons for using this technology. For example, if a heart defect is suspected, one or more of the 4D sonograms could provide valuable information to a neonatologist. The family genetics of the parents may include defective heart conditions. The fetus might be suspected of having that genetic trait.
