Modern technological advancements are, without a doubt, double edged swords. They have brought about positive changes in the way of living for majority of the population of the world. Modern appliances and gadgets allow people to do things faster, easier, and with minimal effort.

Due to the existence of these products, most activities are done with little effort, some even none at all. The things that took man some time to finish are now achievable within a minute. This profound convenience, while altogether improving the quality of life, has also led to astounding laziness among most people. Majority favor the instant things in life which invariably led them to obesity and pushed them to have a duodenal switch surgery in Mexico.

The procedures that are done to promote weight loss among extremely huge people are also referred to as bariatric procedures. These are aimed to correct to destructive body image not for aesthetic reasons, but for the improvement of health conditions. At present, there are three main procedures, the lap band, the Roux en Y, and the duodenal switch.

The lap band method employs the use of a rubber band like device that is placed upon the stomach. This band limits your ability to eat more during meals, because of the restricted capacity of the stomach to hold down food. It is also referred to as adjustable gastric banding by those who perform the said bariatric operation.

The second type is more known as the Roux en Y procedure. It also goes by a second name, the gastric bypass, as most med experts prefer to call it. A pouch is also created in the stomach during the operation, though it is done by cutting off the rest of the stomach. Another cut is made in the jejunum, which is then attached to the small pouch. The duodenum is attached after a certain measure in the jejunum, so as to provide the food with enough juices it needs to be able to break into smaller particles.

The last one is the duodenal switch or the biliopancreatic diversion procedure. Of all the three, this one is the most complicated yet reaps the best results. It involves the removal of about eighty percent of the entire stomach. Afterwards, the majority of the intestinal tract is bypassed by connecting the duodenum to the end part of the intestine. This results in a smaller intake of food, specifically a lesser intake of calories, which effectively tones one down.

This procedure bears the highest weight loss percentage, as compared to the first two. It also has the lowest percentage when it comes to the regaining of the weight, which makes it the most favorable bariatric procedure when it comes to long term results.

It also is the best method when it comes to keeping deadly diseases in check. Those who have tried the DS method were less likely to develop obesity related ailments than those who have ignored it. DS patients also have lesser chances of dying due to diabetes, cancer, and cardiac arrest.

These said procedures, although they aim for weight loss, are not for beauty purposes. They are considered to be a corrective procedure to improve life. They do not blast off body fats, they just regulate food intake.
